Let's answer the question on everyone's lips: | Quote: | | When can I upgrade my store to MMv4? |
MMv4 was made available for new account signups on September 6th, 2011. As with any new major software release, we expected there to be a few hiccups after its release, and we've been resolving the issues that have been encountered. We've also been writing up some additional documentation about the new and changed features. It's been quite a busy month for us.
We are currently testing the tool that will convert a v3 account to MMv4. This is actually quite an extensive process, since every last setting, file, template and byte of data needs to be modified to MMv4's formatting. There's a lot to test, because there's a lot of things that the shopping cart software allows to be customized, to the point that each account can be uniquely configured.
It's like each store is a distinct ecommerce snowflake.
Therefore, we'll be rolling out the MMv4 conversion in several waves, starting with the simplest snowflakes first, and working our way towards the complex stores that are the equivalent of a thundersnow blizzard. These waves will be:
Wave 1: Commenced on September 6th
All new trial and new client signups start using the MMv4 software. Version 3 of the software is no longer installed for new accounts.
Wave 2: Commenced on October 13th
Start converting stores that are hosted by Modular Merchant and that have no custom programming. These are stores that are neither using the "custom scripting slots" nor have custom-made scripts embedded in their storefront HTML templates.
Wave 3: (TBA)
Start converting stores that are hosted by Modular Merchant that have lots of traffic, sales, highly customized templates, sophisticated product configurations, etc.
Wave 4: (TBA)
Start converting stores that have high-levels of integration with third-party systems, including the presence of custom scripts, being hosted on third-party servers, having unusual hosting configurations, etc.
The staggered roll-out schedule will minimize the chances of unexpected behavior that could be encountered by larger, more complex store installations. Converting the smallest, least complex stores first will work out any unforeseen kinks in the conversion process before attempting to convert a store with a large amount of historical data.
We will be revisiting and updating the conversion schedule often over the upcoming weeks. We want to get everyone converted to MMv4 as soon as possible, but we want to do it right even more.
We also want v3 users, especially hi-volume stores, to become familiar with the substantial changes to the software that are introduced in MMv4. Prior to commencing the conversions, we will be releasing a step-by-step review of the biggest changes in MMv4, in order to help our clients to know what to expect after the transition.
This article will be updated as dates for the conversion waves are set.
