Is there a way to take an order without the need for an e-mail address? When customers call us directly, some don't have e-mail addresses, but it appears we can't place an order without one. So we enter their last name as their e-mail and then of course get messages that the email address bounced.

The email address is required to place an order for a customer. The reason for this is due to how the store uses the email address when an customer account is created and or an order is placed. The system treats the email address as a unique identifier for the customer and will cause an error if the same email address is used for more than one customer. Also, a receipt email is sent to that emails address as well as any other option email notifications associated with the order or products within that order.

Entering a false email address is a potential workaround, however unless the email address is a real one, the receipt emails and any other email correspondence will likely bounce.

Requiring an email address is standard practice among online shopping carts and it unlikely to be changed in upcoming software updates to Modular Merchant. It is recommended to request that the customer create an email account (there are many free email services in which to choose from), even if temporarily to place an order.
