Yes, multiple shipping addresses for customers are possible. In fact, in most pre-made template packages support for them is already built in and ready to go by default. Here's a simple tutorial on how multiple shipping addresses can be used by customers in the shopping cart's storefront.
####################################################################-
1. Customer accounts may have multiple shipping addresses
####################################################################-
The Modular Merchant shopping cart software will automatically create a customer account for any customer that doesn't use the "Guest Checkout" option when placing an order. Customers may log in to their Customer Account Area at any time and add additional shipping addresses to their account.

Store administrators may also add shipping addresses to a customer's account from within the shopping cart's administration area. This option is located in the administration area at: [Navigation Menu > Customers > Search Customers]. On the Search Customers page, locate the desired customer and click the "edit" button. This will open the Customer Editor screen for that customer. The Customer Editor screen includes options to edit and add shipping addresses to the customer's account.

2. Customers may ship to multiple addresses when placing an order
####################################################################-
If a customer's account has more than one shipping address associated with it, then the store will automatically display an option for the customer to select an address to ship each product to. These options are added on the product details, basket review and checkout pages in the storefront.
Customers may purchase multiple products (or even copies of the same product) and ship each one to a different address; and all within a single transaction. The customer can place an order containing hundreds of products, and have each product shipped to a different address.

Common Questions
####################################################################-
What happens after a customer places an order with more than one shipping address?
When a customer places an order containing multiple recipients, the customer is still billed just once. Only one transaction will be applied to the customer's credit cart. However, a separate order record and order ID number will be created for shipping address. This way, your shipping department can fraud check, ship and track each recipient's order separately.
What if I don't want to allow my customers to create multiple shipping addresses?
Not every business model is compatible with more than one address per customer. To prevent customers from creating multiple shipping addresses, simply remove the "Add a Shipping Address" menu from the HTML template for the Customer Account Area. This menu is generated by the "{FIELD-SHIP-ADDRESS-JUMP-MENU}" QuickCode Tag. Simply removing this QuickCode Tag will remove the ability for the customer to create more than one address in their account. _________________ Modular Merchant Mail Bag

Great answer, you covered this multi part inquiry nicely.
The last part about what happens after the single sale/multiple ship to address is a very nice feature that will fit well within my clients business model.
Thank you |
