I have my design done, and product list (no images or descriptions) uploaded, but am now strapped for time.
I want to open the store. What's the least I can get by with doing, while the rest is finished piecemeal?
Any ideas welcome. |

Well, the minimum configuration for the store is going to vary for each type of business, but here's a "bare bones" to-do list that comes to mind:
1. Personalize your store's System Settings. These settings can be found in your store's administration area at: [Navigation Menu > Admin > System Settings]. The System Settings customize your store's behavior.
2. In the System Settings, be sure to configure the Credit Card Settings you'll be using. For example, whether you're using Authorize.net, PayPal, manually processing orders offline, or something else, this option will determine how your store collects, validates and charges credit cards.
3. Create Products, Categories and Manufacturers. It sounds like you've already done this, but it's important enough to reiterate here. Can't really have an online store if there's no products to stock the virtual shelves. The "Product Editor" can be found in your store's administration Area at: [Navigation Menu > Products > Add a Product]. You can create your products, categories, upload images, and much more.
4. Select the Shipping Methods you support, if any. These settings can be found in your store's administration Area at: [Navigation Menu > Orders > Search Ship Methods]. You can either select the standard FedEx, UPS or USPS shipping services you support, or create your own custom shipping settings. You can also turn off all shipping methods if you only sell non-shipped products.
5. Open or continue customizing your store's design. There are many tools available to customize the look of your store, for both the novice and expert web designer. A good starting point is the Modular Merchant design guide:
