Hi,
Is it possible to send one coupon code to a list (not necessarily in my mod merch cust list BTW) so that anyone who receives it can use it for a discount ($ or %)?
THings seem pretty tooled to creating 1 coupon per customer, vs. one coupon that many customers can use.

Yes, that can be done by following these steps:

Part 1: Create a multi-use coupon code
################################################-
In your store's administration area:
1. Go to [Navigation Menu > Modules > Coupons & Gift Certificates].
2. Click the "Create a Single Coupon Code Create a Single Coupon Code" link.
3. Enter the attributes for the coupon you wish to create, such as its value, expiration date, etc.
4. Set the "Redemption Limit" to a high number, such as 1000.
5. Click the "Continue..." button to save your changes.
A coupon code has now been created that can be used by multiple customers.

Part 2: Email the coupon code to a selection of customers

In your store's administration area:
1. Go to [Navigation Menu > Customers > Search Customers].
2. Use the basic and/or advanced search tools to locate the desired customers.
3. Select the checkbox in the right-column of the search results for the desired customers.
4. In the section below the search results titled "Add the checked rows above to the list of selected customers", click the button titled "Add to list of selected customers".
5. Repeat steps 2-4 until all desired customers have been added to the list.
6. In the section of the page titled, "Options for what to do with the X customers selected on X pages...", click the "Go" button for the "Send an email to each customer" option. This will open the "Simple Bulk Email" tool.
7. In the "Simple Bulk Email" tool, compose your email message, telling those customers about the coupon. A copy of this email message will be delivered to each customer in the list you created in steps 2-4.
8. Be sure to include the coupon code you created in Part 1 in your email message!
9. Click the "Review this email..." button to complete, review and send the email message to the selected customers.
