Images, images, images: where do I put them?

I'm used to putting images into folders, i.e. Products, Categories, General, etc. so they're easy to up and download using FTP.

I added two folders under "images" to start uploading my pictures. However, in my Admin panel, when I go to Design/Package Images, those folders don't show up. Hmmm Why?

Does everyone just lump all their images under the main folder?

Hello,
Yes, the typical approach has been to lump all images into the "images" folder. However, we can see how it would be helpful for the system to read the contents of subfolders inside the "images" folder.

I've been able to confirm that an upcoming update will add this capability, so the "images" folder will be able to include subfolders. This should help when organizing large groups of images.

This is in development, so a release date has not yet been set. This item will be posted in the Dev Schedule in your store's administration area when it gets closer to release. In the meantime, let us know if there's anything else we can help you with.

An update on this image management feature is available.

I've confirmed that the next Modular Merchant software update, version 3.2.1, will improve the "Template Images" tool so that images located in subdirectories will be found and included in the list of images.

Here's an excerpt from the release notes from the upcoming update: The Template Images tool will now list all images contained in a Design Package directory. This includes images in the Design Package directory itself, the "images" subdirectory, or any other directory or subdirectory therein. The Template Images tool is located in the store's administration area at: [Design > Template Images].
