Learn about Modular Merchant's templating engine in the Design Guide.
The Design Guide demonstrates the process of designing a set of HTML templates for use with a Modular Merchant online store. This guide focuses on the design and layout of the storefront web pages. (The storefront includes all the store pages used during the shopping and checkout processes.) Information on the software’s administrative, shipping and fulfillment options are not included in this guide. Information on those topics can be found in other documents.
There's two approaches to designing your store’s HTML templates:
1) Install a pre-made template in your store and then customize it, if necessary. A library of pre-made templates is available at: http://www.modularmerchant.com/templates/
2)Design your own HTML templates and upload them to your store.
This guide covers both of the approaches above. It covers how to install a pre-made template in your store, and also discusses the steps involved in designing your own custom templates from scratch.
Prerequisites
The Design Guide assumes that the reader already has a basic understanding of how to build a webpage; including working with HTML source code, and creating links, tables, styles and images. A tutorial on these prerequisites is outside the scope of this guide. However, if you require instruction on these items, many free resources and tutorials are available on the Internet, and a variety of books are available in the computer section of your local bookstore.
