1) Can MM replace QuickBooks? I am using QB to import my orders, place purchase orders, keep track of billing, credit card statements, sales, etc.
2) If not, is there a way to import my orders into QB? |

1) Can MM replace QuickBooks?
This is not advised. QuickBooks tracks many items related to a company's operations, in addition to online sales information, that Modular Merchant is not designed to. Things like tracking employee earnings, 1099's, etc., are not features Modular Merchant is designed to support.
2) If not, is there a way to import my orders into QB?
Importing order data into QuickBooks is not currently a native feature of Modular Merchant. However, this feature is scheduled for development, and is planned to be included in an upcoming software update. No date has currently been set for the release of this feature. When more information on a release date is available, we will post an update here.
I hope this information is helpful. If you have any additional questions, please let us know. Thank you. |

| Great, I'm glad to hear it is scheduled for development. Have you considered simply making your product work with Write It Once (www.writeitonce.com)? This program would do the work without you having to develop it. They currently support many shopping carts, including the one we have been using. Please contact them as you could then add this to your features list and attract customers as many of us use QuickBooks and want to be able to import our Shopping Cart orders into QB. The product from Write It Once is called Shopping Cart Assistant. We have been using it with our current shopping cart and it works fantastic. Our current shopping cart provider isn't nearly as nice as Modular Merchant, but their product does work with Shopping Cart Assistant. This is the only thing that is keeping us from going "full board" with Modular Merchant for both of the online commerce web sites we operate. |

We had several opportunities like that when we started to consider Modular Merchant- and of course they did everything in their power to help us make the transition. Nothing is perfect, and sometimes you have to just deal with the situation in the interest of long-term growth.
I'll share this with you though- after moving to Modular we saw almost an immediate big jump in order quality (read: 'dollar per ticket'). It surprised even us and we KNEW how good the system was.
Did I mention our complaints went down 99% too? Instead, we get business offers. <grin>. |

A QuickBooks export module was added to the Modular Merchant shopping cart software as of version 3.0. This module is a standard feature in all 3.0 account plans! The QuickBooks export tool is located in your shopping cart's administration area at: [Modules > 3rd Party Service Integration > QuickBooks Export].
The Export File
The QuickBooks export creates an export.iif file which can be imported directly into QuickBooks. The import includes data for the: order, order's products, customer, tax (if any), shipping (if any), gift wrap fees (if any) and coupon discounts (if any). The report will also import new customers into your QuickBooks records, and will update existing customers.
Exporting For the First Time
Before exporting your first QuickBooks Export file, click the Options tab in the QuickBooks Export module to customize the format of your export file. When specifying accounts, vendors, and items to use, take care to spell them exactly as they appear in QuickBooks. This is essential for accurate QuickBooks records.
Field Formats
The export file will use the Modular Merchant product SKU for the QuickBooks Item code for that product. Again, be sure the spelling between the two is identical. If a product is listed as a "Subitem" in QuickBooks, the Modular Merchant SKU must match the QuickBooks format "Item:Subitem". For products with modifiers, the specific SKU for the version of the product sold is used.
Modular Merchant's product name is mapped to QuickBooks' "Description" field. For products with modifiers, the product name, plus the name of all modifiers associated with the version of the product sold, is inserted into QuickBooks' product "Description" field. The spelling of the contents of the "Description" field does not need to match any corresponding QuickBooks field.
How to Import the File into QuickBooks
1. Click on the Reports tab above to view the reporting screen. Set your options and date range, and click the Download Report button.
2. An export file with a ".iif" extension will be generated. Save this file on your computer.
3. Open QuickBooks.
4. In QuickBooks, go to: [File > Import > IIF Files...].
5. Locate the export file you downloaded and click "Ok".
6. QuickBooks will scan the export file for errors, and add the orders listed in the export file to its records.
Tips
If you are importing into QuickBooks for the first time, back up your data beforehand. This will give you a means to undo the import if the results are not as expected. _________________ CMarier
