How do test my settings without actually charging a credit card?
Your account's System Settings include an option for putting your store into "Test Mode". In Test Mode, dummy credit card information is sent to your Payment Gateway. The store communicates with your Payment Gateway account, but no funds are authorized or charged. This is a good way in which to test and confirm that your store and Payment Gateway accounts are both configured correctly and communicating with each other.
Note: Many Payment Gateways, such as Authorize.net, also have their own Test Mode setting, which can be toggled on or off from within their own account area. If you are ready to start taking real credit card orders, be sure that Modular Merchant's System Setting and your Payment Gateway are both taken out of Test Mode.
How do I take my Authorize.net account out of Test Mode?
1. Log in to your Authorize.net account area.
2. Click on the Settings and Profile link in the menu on the left.
3. In the General section of the page, click the Test Mode link.
4. If your Authorize.net account is in Test Mode, a message will be displayed stating, "This account is currently in TEST MODE". Below the message will be a button with the option, "Turn Test OFF". Click this button. Your Authorize.net account is now in "Live" mode, and ready to accept transactions.

|

| Quote: | | When I tried this place a test transaction in my store, I got a decline message that the "credit card had expired (ID:8)". | Here is some information on what is the most common cause of receiving the following decline message from Authorize.net:
"REASON FOR DECLINE: (TESTMODE) The credit card has expired. (ID: 8)"
Please note that 'TESTMODE' is the reason for the decline. (Both Modular Merchant AND Authorize.net have their own "Test Mode" settings.) This will normally happen when your Authorize.net account is in test mode. When your Authorize.net account is in testmode, it uses a 'dummy' credit card number that will generate a decline for banks and other merchants and are only intended for use in a testing environment.
To resolve this issue and to be able to run test transactions through Modular Merchant store, I would advise that you follow the instructions below.
1. Log in to your Authorize.net account area.
2. Click on the Settings and Profile link in the menu on the left.
3. In the General section of the page, click the Test Mode link.
4. Below the "This account is currently in TEST MODE"
message will be a button with the option, "Turn Test OFF". Click this button. Your Authorize.net account is now in "Live" mode, and ready to accept transactions.
Next, put Modular Merchant into 'Test mode' to run a test transaction without having to process your credit card.
1. Log in to your Modular Merchant store as an Super Administrator
2. Go to System Settings, located at: Navigation Menu>Admin>System Settings
3. The first option under the 'General Settings' section is 'Are you running in test mode' Please click to put a checkmark in 'Yes'
4. Click on any of the submit buttons
At this time you can run a test transaction through your store. You can use ANY credit card information and customer data in your store and Modular Merchant will send the test transaction data INSTEAD of the credit card data that you entered, as long as your store is in Testmode. Again, this will not charge your credit card.
*PLEASE NOTE that you will need to take your Modular Merchant store out of test mode once you are done running test transactions. |
