Can I search my customers based on their behavior? For example, is there a way to find my best customers? Or customers that haven't purchased anything in my store recently?
Yes, it is possible to search your customers based on this type of criteria. This article will provide instruction on where to find these search tools, the available options, and what you can do with the customers you find.

Search Customers
To begin, load the Search Customers page in your Modular Merchant account's Administration area. The Search Customers page is located in the Customers section of the Administration area. (See Figure 1.)

Figure 1: The location of the Search Customers page in the Administration Navigation Menu

Advanced Search Options
The Search Customers page includes two sections: On the top is a series of search options, and below it is a section containing your search results. In the upper-right corner of the search tools is an option to expand the search tools to display "Advanced Search Options". (See Figure 2.)

Figure 2: Where to find the Advanced Customer Search Options

Clicking the "Advanced Search Options" link will expand the search tools to include several new options, including:
1. Find customers that have purchased product(s) or a category of products that you specify.
2. Enter an optional date range for search option 1.
3. Find customers that have not purchased product(s) or a category of products you specify.
4. Enter an optional date range for search option 3.
5. Find customers with a name, address, email, etc., that matches a specified key word.
6. Find customers that have placed X orders within a specified date range.
7. Find customers that have spent a gross total of X within a specified date range.

Each of the Advanced Search Options is optional. You can toggle each option on or off for each search.

Some common advanced search scenarios:
Who are my most frequent? Search with option 6.
Who purchased Product X, but never bought its companion Product Y? Search with Product X listed in option 1, and Product Y listed in option 3.
Do I sell more to BNM customers, or PlanetLink customers? Search with option 6 set to search email addresses containing "BNM". Perform a second search with option 6 set to search email addresses containing "PlanetLink". Compare the "# of Orders" columns of the two search results.

Search Results
The customers that match your search criteria will be listed in the "Search Results" section of the page. (See Figure 3.) The search results can be sorted in ascending or descending order by: first name, last name, email address, number of orders the customer has placed, System ID number, customer's active status.

Working with Selected Customers
Okay, I have my search results... what can I do with them?

Below the Search Results table resides another expandable section of options. (See Figure 4.) This list of options will allow you to perform several actions on the customers selected in your Search Results, including:
1. Append/Remove selected customers to a Customer Group. (Customer Groups are used for tracking, assigning product discounts, or creating a mailing list of selected customers.)
2. Create a new Customer Group containing the selected customers.
3. Activate/Deactivate the selected customers.
4. Download the account information for the selected customers in a spreadsheet.
5. Create a store coupon for the selected customers. (Requires Coupons & Gift Certificates add-on module.)
6. Delete the selected customers.

Figure 4: Expanded options for what to do with the selected customers.

I hope this information helps you glean more information about the behavior of customers in your store. Who's buying what? Who has stopped buying? And who's never finished an order? The answers to these questions will hopefully help.
